LiftMaster is the most common opener brand in the Treasure Valley, and the one most often fitted by builders through the valley's growth years.
If your house was built in Meridian, Kuna or Star in the last twenty-five years, there is a good chance a LiftMaster or its Chamberlain twin came with it. They are well-built units and they are worth repairing rather than replacing in most cases — parts availability is excellent and the designs are serviceable.
The single most common LiftMaster failure is the plastic drive gear inside the motor housing on chain and belt-drive units. The symptom is unmistakable: the motor runs normally and the door does not move. A gear and sprocket kit is a modest part and about an hour of labor, against several hundred dollars for a new opener. Anyone who quotes you a replacement for that symptom without opening the housing has not diagnosed it.
After that: capacitors on older units, logic boards (often after a power surge, which matters here given winter outages), the travel and force limit settings drifting, and the safety photo-eyes going out of alignment. We carry gear kits, capacitors, sensors and the common board revisions.
LiftMaster has moved through several rolling-code generations, and mixing them up is the usual reason a new remote will not program. The learn button color is the quickest tell — green, purple, yellow and red-orange indicate different eras with different compatible accessories. If you have bought a remote or keypad that refuses to pair, that is almost always the reason rather than a fault in the opener, and we can sort it on a normal service call.
Almost certainly the plastic drive gear inside the motor unit. The motor is fine and no longer connected to the drive. A gear kit plus about an hour of labor fixes it, far cheaper than a new opener.
